FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vets voted Meadhurst Team of the Year
Meadhurst Football Club salutes outstanding Vets year
April 2000
In an unprecedented departure from tradition the Club committee voted
the Vets the "Team of the Year" ahead of the Saturday and Sunday
league sides.
While the lack of success of the league sides certainly contributed to
the Vets selection nothing can detract from the outstanding Vets
season. They were beaten only once in the regular season and
completed famous doubles over such longstanding rivals as
British Airways.
Commenting on the award, the manager, Jack Frost said "The influx of
younger vets has taken a little while to adjust to the higher level of
teamwork required for vets football and some didn't make the grade.
But we have a good team spirit and we think we will come back even
stronger next season"
The end of the season marked Steve Harrison's retirement as fixture
secretary. Steve started Vets football at Meadhurst, managing and
organising the team. Hewas rightly awarded the coveted Clubman of the
Year trophy for creating an opportunity for footballers who don't realise
they are past it to carry on imagining that they can play. We expect
Steve to continue drinking with the team after home games.
